Explanation

Rereading the whole passage after every question feels safe but wastes time and can blur where evidence came from. Build a map on the first pass, identify the question's evidence type, and return to the smallest relevant area. Read enough surrounding context to understand reference and qualification, but stop when the claim is resolved. This is different from searching for one copied word; targeted return uses structure first and wording second.

Audit tempting options for distortion

Actions

Label actor, scope, cause, sequence, condition, or certainty distortion.
Underline the exact word that changes the claim.
Reject a partial match as soon as one required condition fails.

Example

Lesson

Both statements involve money, but their function and condition are opposite.

Context

A writer accepts paid optional classes but opposes a mandatory borrowing fee.

Demonstration

Distorted option: the writer supports charging before any loan. It changes optional revenue into required access payment.

Explanation

Wrong choices often preserve the topic while changing scope, cause, actor, sequence, or certainty. Build a short distortion vocabulary and label the problem rather than saying an option is ‘not in the text.’ This discipline exposes partial matches. In tables, one failed condition is enough to reject a choice. In viewpoints, a writer's concession cannot be substituted for the main recommendation. In informational passages, a reported observation cannot automatically become a universal rule.
